Esmerald is a green crystalline substance that is grown and harvested by the Esmera. Like Almasium or Dragonsclaw, it is the foundation of the Esmera’s society, however, the Esmera do not have an economy or industry at the base of that foundation. Instead it is used sparingly, revered religiously, and treated with the utmost respect. For what technology the Esmera do have, Esmerald is at its core, draped in holy symbolism and sacred texts.
The structure and function of this material is very similar to Almasium and Almasine. However, unlike either, Esmerald is extremely stable. It will not burn or explode, but can be melted and reshaped. Primarily, Esmerald can be magically charged and discharged slowly like a battery, and there are many ways this can be achieved. The most common use of Esmerald, is as a solar collector; large, thin slices of the crystal capture sunlight to charge the material. Spells can be cast which discharge the material for light, heat, and other applications.
Esmerald is grown using a process that is a closely guarded secret. However, what is known is that the crystals are formed from secretions of a plant that only occurs deep in the forests of Esmera territory. These secretions crystallize into a bright green gemstone. These gemstones can be cut, polished, or even melted down and recast into larger forms. The process is very slow and artisanal, however the Esmera have enough for their needs and plenty in stockpile. The Esmera do not have an interest in selling the material outside of their territory, and refuse to let Sapphi industrialists have access to the material, as they believe the Sapphi would abuse the forests with their greed.
While Esmerald does not directly facilitate communion with the gods, it is commonly used in religious iconography, the center of rituals, and embedded directly into holy artifacts and weapons.
