The Shadow Queen; Goddess of Wealth, Secrets, Shadows, and the Firstborn of Hadhel
To the wealthy merchants and nobles of Prismatia, gold is merely trade and power. To those in the dark, every coin is a divine remnant. Legend holds that in the primordial age, Aisana bled for the mortal realm—and where her golden blood struck the earth, the world’s very first veins of gold were forged. Because of this, her followers see the accumulation of wealth not just as greed, but as a holy reclamation of their goddess’s physical body. While street urchins, guildmasters, and catburglars revere her for good fortune, her true name—Aisana—is treated as a dangerous curse. To speak it aloud is to invite her full, unblinking attention into your secrets. Instead, she is invoked only as The Shadow Queen, The Firstborn, or The Gilded Vein.
She rarely appears in the light, but when depicted in shrine-statues or fever dreams, she is a statuesque figure draped in heavy, ink-black silks that seem to swallow light. Her eyes glow like molten gold beneath a deep cowl, and dark, metallic blood constantly drips from her fingertips, hardening into solid coin before it hits the floor. Signs of her presence include a sudden, inexplicable shadow falling over a freshly counted pile of coin; the sound of a soft, clinking purse when walking down an empty alley; or a gold coin turning pitch-black in a swindler’s palm.
“They call her the Shadow Queen, but do not be fooled—she is not a goddess of darkness, but of what darkness hides. Every piece of gold that passes through your fingers carries the faint, ancient chill of her blood. Pray to her if you wish your pocket to stay heavy and your footsteps light, but mind your tongue. Speak her real name, and the shadows won’t just hide you… they’ll swallow you whole.”
